I’ve been greeted many times by strangers I never knew,
Each asking if I served my country, back in WWII.
I answer YES, and proud I am, to have been able to, it’s nice,
I’d like to shake your hand they add, thank you for your sacrifice.

My sacrifice is small, compared to other men.
Some came back disabled, others stayed to the end.
These are the men that deserve your praise, and all the glory too.
All who served deserve the thanks of grateful ones like you.

My heartfelt thanks goes out to you, and all who understand,
The many sacrifices made, by each and every man.
Because of them we are free, and our country still is strong.
God bless them for our freedom, now and in the future long.
