Our flag is flying high and free,
Because of folks like you and me.
We go to work, we have our fun,
With a freedom that our bravery won.

Kids at school, showing their might,
Became men quickly and joined the fight.
Families were separated for sometimes years,
A lot of heartache, a lot of tears.

It was tough, but had to be done,
‘Til that terrible war was won.
We were fighters from the very start,
Not much training, but lots of heart.

We rode the train, we marched in the rain,
And at times we thought we’d go insane.
School kids collected paper and metal,
To build ships and planes for our greatest battle.

Old Glory is flying high and free,
Because of folks like you and me.
Sacrifices were made for our battered nation,
By men and women of the ‘Greatest Generation’.
